Today (26th September) we moved all 30-ish summer chicks out of the Pole Barn and into the Poultry Pen. We usually transition chicks earlier, but after losing so many hens this past spring / early summer to racoons, we were not going to take the chance of moving them until they were a decent size. I'm not sure who was going more stir crazy with them being inside, them, or Halena and I, and talk about a mess!
Whether it was because of their sheer numbers, or the existing brood were feeling particularly sociable that week, the transition went amazingly well.
Another 2-3 months and these beauties should start giving us a rainbow variety of egg colors.
